PHS Wants to Give the Arnold Family the Headstone they Deserve

Recently, Poland Historical Society trustee Dave Smith discovered that the Arnold family of eight has no marker in Riverside Cemetery. The deaths of this African American family occurred between 1885 and 1940 and no permanent marker was ever placed. One member of the family, Alfred Arnold, went to school with future president "Bill" McKinley and was elected the first constable of Poland in 1915.

We are hoping to raise funds to erect a marker for this family. Donations can be made by check with "Arnold Family" on the memo line sent to:

Dave Smith was interviewed by J.T. Whitehouse of The Vindicator with more information about this family. Click on the image to be taken to vindy.com for the website version of the article.
